The Nautical Technology Program at BMFA is governed by the Academic Rules by international standard. The program spans over a period of three years, structured into six academic semesters.

To become a Deck Officer, a student has to study Nautical Science. It consists of three main elements, namely:

• Navigation and ship handling,
• Safe and secure operation of a ship and
• Shipboard administration and handling of cargoes

• Candidate wishing to follow the path of Deck Officer training must have a Secondary certificate with good grades in English, Mathematics and Science. Deck Officers are responsible for the safe navigation of a ship between ports.

The BS Nautical Science (deck officer) program takes 4 years to complete. The internship for BS in Nautical Science practice is incorporated in the program.
